At St. Francis College, undergraduate and graduate students have access to an extensive selection of courses taught in English. Typically, students can register for up to six academic courses and attend the same classes as local and international students. They have equal rights and responsibilities at the host institution, including mandatory attendance at all classes. Students must attend every class session and avoid missing more than 10% of the total course meetings.

You can take up to 6 academic courses per semester of which each is approximately 3 US credits (6 ECTS). This equals around 18 US credits (ca. 36 ECTS) per semester. One credit hour represents one hour of regular class participation in a lecture or two or more hours in a laboratory session each week.

Subsequently, you’ll get a confirmation of your study placement within 1-7 days.
You’ll get a confirmation of your study placement in 1-7 days, starting from when your application is complete with all the required documents. You’ll receive the electronic official acceptance letter approximately 1,5 months before the semester starts. You need to print the official acceptance letter for your student visa application.
The application fee invoice will be sent to you soon after the initial acceptance letter. This fee will be due within 10 days of receiving your confirmation. The application fee is non-refundable even if you decide to cancel (see below). You’ll receive the invoice for the tuition fee about 2.5 months before the semester starts.
If you’re unable to participate in the study abroad semester, you have the right to cancel your participation up to 1 month before the semester starts with no extra cost (the application fee will not be refunded, however). Let us know about your cancellation by writing us an email at info[at]asiaexchange.org. Cancellations notified via phone, SMS or by any other means will not be considered. You are required to have valid accident and health insurance from your home country for the whole duration of the program. The university may request a copy of the insurance certificate at the beginning of the semester. See our recommended travel insurance providers.
Located in Brooklyn Heights, New York City, St. Francis College is a private college founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers. It is one of the oldest colleges in New York City and offers over 70 majors and minors, including business, biology, communication arts, psychology, education, and more. The college is known for its small class sizes and personalized attention to students, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1. Moreover, the college is committed to providing affordable education, and 97% of students receive financial aid. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, St. Francis College’s mission is to provide a values-based education that prepares students for meaningful careers and active citizenship.
Incoming international students are given strong support at St. Francis College. Academic advisors and transfer credit specialist work closely with students to advise them on their first-semester coursework based on their academic profile and major interests. Transfer students review their transfer credits during registration sessions and register for classes with an advisor. To help students feel at home, the college also hosts Transfer Orientation Sessions and many social and academic events. Advisors are always available in the Center for Student Success to answer questions and provide one-on-one support.
St. Francis College offers a Student Counseling Center and Student Health Services to support the well-being of students. The Counseling Center provides personal counseling and assistance with anxiety, stress, interpersonal and family issues, or other matters. Students can make appointments to speak with counselors during the fall and spring semesters, and the center is located in the Student Health Services area. The Student Health Services office is staffed by a professional nurse available for general health and nutrition counseling on a walk-in basis and by appointment.

A: Yes, during the add/drop period of each semester, as stated on the Academic calendar, students can drop a course. Moreover, it is possible to withdraw from a course after this period. However, students must complete the appropriate forms at the Registrar’s Office during the designated time period specified in the Academic Calendar. It is important to note that the transcript of records will indicate a mark of “W” for withdrawal.
Q: Do I need a visa?

A: Yes, St. Francis College provides an excellent living and educational environment through its Residence Life program, which offers a secure, pleasant, hygienic, and well-kept atmosphere. The Residence Hall is in Brooklyn Heights and open to incoming and local students.

A: The MTA subway and bus system is the most suitable transportation alternative for international students living in New York City. The MTA provides various fare alternatives, such as a pay-per-ride alternative and a “MetroCard” option, allowing unlimited rides. The MetroCard can be purchased for several durations, but we advise opting for the 30-day unlimited ride option for $127.00, which enables limitless travel on the subway and local buses.
A: When you study at SFC, you will have access to the student health services on campus. The Student Health Services office is staffed by a professional nurse Monday through Friday, (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The nurse is available for general health and nutrition counselling on a walk-in basis and by appointment. The office handles for example student accident insurance claims and sponsors the semi-annual blood drive.
In addition, the medical suite, in the student lounge in room 2310, is equipped to provide emergency first-aid attention and contains cots and other short-term facilities. Appointments can be made with a local general practitioner. There are several hospitals close by the College.
